About the founder
Rhonda Renee Holmes is the founder and Executive Director of RRHolmes Scholarship Organization for Caribbean Advancement (RRH SOCA). As a first-generation American born to parents from Barbados, W.I., she witnessed her mother’s struggle to make a better life for herself and her four older siblings. Her mother always stressed the importance of education and managed to send her children to some of the best colleges and universities in the U.S. such as Stanford University, University of Pennsylvania, Pratt Institute and Carnegie Mellon to name a few. As a child she was inspired by witnessing her siblings and mother graduate from college all immigrants from the Caribbean.
Ms. Holmes has seen first-hand the impact that post-secondary school education has made on her life and that of her siblings. Her family’s Caribbean roots are a part of who she is. As a result she formed RRH SOCA to help others like herself, mother and sisters. Rhonda’s ultimate vision in forming RRH SOCA is to enable those from the Caribbean or those of Caribbean decent to obtain higher education degrees which will ultimately lead to rewarding and successful careers.
Rhonda Holmes is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University where she obtained both her bachelors and Masters Degrees in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. She has worked in the finance industry for over 14 years with experience in both the public and government sectors. She has served as a Board Member for another nonprofit organization, Passion for Life, Inc., where she held Treasurer and Board Chair roles. She lives in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA with her son, Jamie.
